Haudenosaunee – Australia
Haudenosaunee rolled to a dominant 21-4 win over Australia to claim the bronze medal at the first-ever World Lacrosse Women’s Box Championship.
The bronze medal is the first medal for the Haudenosaunee women at any World Lacrosse championship.
It was smooth sailing throughout from the Haudenosaunee, who jumped out to a 10-2 lead and more than doubled the margin with a strong second half.
Haudenosaunee received hat tricks from Ferrah Blackbird, Timmia Bomberry, Ava Gabriel, and Fawn Porter. Chelsea Doolittle was outstanding in net with 27 saves on an 87% save percentage.
Bea Cameron scored three and Abbie Burgess-Brice added one for Australia.
Australia heads home with a fourth place finish and a quarterfinal win in its campaign in Utica.
Hong Kong, China – Finland
Hong Kong, China, took care of Finland in a 9-3 ninth-place-game victory on Saturday morning
The score at the end of the first quarter was 4-0 and Hong Kong was able to control play the rest of the way.
Hong Kong received two goals from Sumyuet Cheng, Cherry Hon, and Joyce Tong.
The goaltending was a difference maker for Hong Kong. Claudia Chan saved 11 of 13 shots in the first half, and Sum Tang saved 18 of 19 in the second.
Suvi Onne, Ida Perakyla, and Inka Ulaska scored the only goals for Finland. Despite the loss, Milli Lofgren made a positive impact in net with 44 saves on 53 shots.
Hong Kong, China, secures ninth place in the first-ever women’s box championship, while Finland finishes 10th.
Germany – England
England pulled off a fourth quarter turnaround to down Germany, 14-13, and clinch a fifth-place finish at the women’s box championship.
Germany led 12-9 entering the final frame with a goal in the last minute of the third quarter. But England four goals in the next 10 minutes to storm into a 13-12 lead.
Tessa Helf tied the game up back for Germany with under four minutes to play but Rosie Bathurst scored the game-winning goal for England to cap another scintillating game in the women’s box championship.
England’s effort was headlined by five goals and two assists from Alex Drewe. Eight other players found the back of the net, including Bathurst, who tallied a goal and assist.
Tessa Helf (4 goals, 3 assists) and Toni Garbe (3 goals and 1 assist) led the way for Germany in the narrow defeat.
England goalie Lucy Mayers played the whole game, finishing with 35 saves. Kady Glynn, who played all but the first two minutes for Germany, saved 37 of 47 shots.
Germany finished in sixth place
