(ONONDAGA NATION) Below is a recap of the six games played on Day Eight (Friday) of the 2015 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship.
SEMIFINAL: Iroquois 17, USA 10
The Iroquois Nationals put on a box lacrosse clinic in front of a standing-room-only crowd at Onondaga Nation, scoring eight straight first-half goals and five in a row in the third quarter en route to a 17-10 win over the U.S. in the World Indoor Lacrosse Championship semifinals on Friday night.
The Iroquois beat the U.S. 13-9 on opening night of the WILC one week ago. This one wasn’t nearly as close.
Miles Thompson had three goals and five assists, Lyle Thompson had three goals and three assists while Randy Staats also notched a hat trick.
Staats and Johnny Powless each had two in the first half. Powless’ second came on a beautiful one-handed, underhand laser that made it 8-2 with 5:26 left in the second quarter. Powless also finished with six assists.
The Iroquois raced to an 8-2 lead and never looked back against the U.S. on Friday night.

U.S. forward Joe Walters scored the first two goals of the game before the Iroquois went on the run that broke things open early. Walters notched another for a first-half hat trick with 4:26 left in the half and Joe Resetarits scored a minute later, but the Nationals finished the first 30 minutes with three straight.
Consecutive goals by Garrett Thul and Joel White cut the Iroquois lead to 11-5 three minutes into the second half, but the Nationals went on a five-goal run, during which Miles Thompson scored twice.
The Iroquois advance to play Canada in the gold medal game for the fourth consecutive time at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Canada won gold in the previous three indoor lacrosse world championships.

SEMIFINAL: Canada 19, Israel 3
Canada has completed fine-tuning its game and is primed for the championship final of the world indoor lacrosse tournament.
Mark Matthews and Zack Greer scored four goals each in a 19-3 semifinal victory over Israel on Friday night. Dhane Smith, Shawn Evans, Chris Corbeil and Dan Dawson scored two goals each and Curtis Dickson, Jordan MacIntosh and Stephan Leblanc got one each. Canada led 9-2 at halftime with Aaron Bold in the nets. Matt Vinc played the second half.
Canada hopes to win a fourth consecutive title in Syracuse’s Carrier Dome on Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m. when it meets the Iroquois for the Gold.

An upset win over the Czech Republic on Thursday catapulted Israel, participating for the first time in the world indoor tournament, into the semifinals. Half of the players are from North America including NLL pros Chad Culp of Arthur, Ontario, and goalie Zach Higgins of Courtice, Ontario.
Israel will face the U.S. for the bronze in the Carrier Dome at 1:00 p.m.
