So far, we have introduced several types of anxiety and discussed how different individuals can experience anxiety. Take this opportunity to think about a time that you have been anxious. How have you experienced anxiety? How did it feel? How did it affect you?
As a reminder, here are several types of anxiety:
- Trait Anxiety: relates to an aspect of personality in which nervousness is a stable personality trait for an individual
- State Anxiety: Refers to temporary feelings of anxiety in a particular situation. It is the state of emotional arousal following a perceived threat or circumstance
- Cognitive Anxiety: Worrying thoughts
- Somatic Anxiety: Physiological arousal (sweaty palms, increased heart rate)
