The United States advanced to the gold medal game with another complete performance, defeating the Haudenosaunee, 19-5, on Friday night at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Jeju Island in Korea.
The United States’ cast of attackers did their damage early, rolling to a 7-2 lead by the end of the first quarter and controlling the game from there with four goals in each of the next three frames.
The United States outshot the Haudenosaunee 54-21 and allowed 11 shots on goal, while also benefitting from strong individual performances on face-offs and in net.
In all previous nine editions of the championship, the United States has taken the gold medal, and it will look to repeat the feat on Sunday at 1 p.m. local time (UTC+9) against its familiar final foe Canada. The two teams have sparred for gold in the last six iterations of the event.
The Haudenosaunee will face Australia at 10 a.m. on Sunday, in a bid to avenge their own overtime pool play loss on day two while also maintaining their three-event streak of bronze medals.
Zach Hayashi and Brady Wambach helped the United States control the game with 22 of 26 face-offs won. Patrick Jamieson and Anderson Moore combined for six saves on 11 shots.
The diverse American attack had four stars reprise their roles on Friday night, led by Owen Duffy’s sparkling nine-point performance on four goals and five assists. Jack Speidell delivered three goals and four assists while Timothy Shannehan added three goals and two assists. Brendan Millon also notched a hat trick.
Ryder Johnson made 12 saves for the Haudenosaunee. Five different players scored.
