Ireland took over in the second half to pull away from Germany for a 15-6 win in placement play at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship on Friday on Jeju Island in Korea.
Germany led 5-1 early and 5-3 at halftime after an sharp start to the game, but Ireland came out of the break with a renewed energy. Ireland scored 12 goals in a row, including an 8-0 third quarter to put its stamp on the game.
In the end, Ireland outshot Germany 56-24 and pressured Germany into 36 turnovers.
Ireland advanced to the ninth place game, set for Saturday at 7:10 p.m. against Mexico. The two teams met in placement play in a narrow 7-4 win for Ireland, with the rematch promising another intense battle.
Germany moved to the 11th place game against a fellow European side in the Netherlands, set for Saturday at 4:10 p.m.
Ireland’s goalkeeper Gage Knight made six saves. While it took a half for the Ireland attack to wake up, Boomer Staunton finished with five goals, including a personal 3-0 run to take the lead for Ireland.
Nine different players scored alongside Staunton with Declan Butler adding three points.
Erik Schmiedl was effective on draw controls for Germany, while Erik Mischel made 13 saves in net. Julius Busch scored twice.
