World Lacrosse Pledges Support for United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) One Humanity Campaign

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

December 29, 2020

COLORADO SPRINGS, COLORADO, USA — Consistent with its commitment to uphold
the enduring power of sport as a vehicle for unity, opportunity and social change, World
Lacrosse is joining the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) One Humanity
Campaign.
The announcement was made today by World Lacrosse and the UNAOC.
The mission of the UNAOC is to advance understanding, cooperation and dialogue
among nations and peoples across all cultures, as well as to promote the values and
benefits of diversity. The One Humanity Campaign aspires to remind us of our common
being and calls for solidarity, compassion and unity in the face of all forms of
discrimination.
World Lacrosse joins organizations such as the Global Association of International Sports
Federations (GAISF), the Spanish soccer league La Liga, Spanish football club Athletico
Madrid and the International Judo Federation (IJF), among many other international
federations, in joining the One Humanity Campaign. The campaign will see the
participating organizations champion One Humanity by demonstrating their commitment
to peaceful and inclusive societies through a range of initiatives. In addition, these
initiatives and projects will be featured on a dedicated online platform in the future to
increase the visibility of this important campaign.
Earlier this month, World Lacrosse President Sue Redfern announced the formation of a
Diversity and Opportunity Commission, the members of which will form part of a global
Commission for World Lacrosse participating in strategy and policy development and, as
appropriate, take the lead for specific projects and communications with an aim of
positioning World Lacrosse as a champion for inclusion and diversity across all its
activities.
The Diversity and Opportunity Commission will examine how best to reinforce the
principles of the One Humanity Campaign within World Lacrosse programming through
policy, advocacy and education.

“World Lacrosse is honored to have been invited to join the United Nations Alliance of
Civilizations One Humanity Campaign, and we proudly pledge our participation and
support of this important global initiative,” said President Redfern. “The name of this
campaign — One Humanity — underscores the unique role sport often plays in uniting
our world as one, in a shared commitment to tolerance, peace and understanding.”
