World Lacrosse and Premier Lacrosse League Announce Memorandum of Understanding to Support Continued Growth of Lacrosse Globally

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 20, 2019
Los Angeles, CA – With the sport of lacrosse experiencing continued growth in participation and visibility around the globe, World Lacrosse and the Premier Lacrosse League (PLL) announced today the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) through which the two entities will work together to strengthen and accelerate the pace of growth.
The announcement was made as part of the Premier Lacrosse League’s inaugural All-Star Weekend in Los Angeles.
Specific areas of cooperation between World Lacrosse and the PLL, as outlined in the MOU, include:
— Exploration of commercial, sponsorship and digital production opportunities;
— Testing and evaluation of new rules and game formats;
— Working collaboratively to support the ambition of securing inclusion for lacrosse in the Olympic Games;
— Working collaboratively to avoid schedule conflicts between PLL and World Lacrosse events;
— And, exploration of the development of joint properties such as domestic festivals and foreign tours.
“In its inaugural season, the Premier Lacrosse League is already making meaningful contributions to the growth of lacrosse,” said World Lacrosse Chief Executive Officer Jim Scherr.  “The PLL was founded on ideals such as innovation and a commitment to athletes, while celebrating the excitement of lacrosse and honoring the enduring values of this great game.”
“There is a natural alignment in values and purpose between World Lacrosse and the PLL,” added Scherr.  “As our international federation continues to grow, we will seek to develop additional opportunities and alliances that are designed to benefit this great game and the athletes who play it.”
“We are ready to work tirelessly with the leadership at World Lacrosse to promote the game for the long-term,” says PLL Co-Founder and CEO Mike Rabil. “Alongside World Lacrosse, we will find unique opportunities to both continue the domestic growth of lacrosse while also expanding the sport’s global reach.
With the international lacrosse season in full swing, World Lacrosse has two upcoming World Championships: the Women’s Under-19 World Championship in Peterborough, Ontario, August 1-10, and the Men’s Indoor World Championship in Langley, British Columbia, September 19-28.
