The United States claimed its second win in as many days with a 28-4 victory over Puerto Rico in Pool A action in the women’s U20 championship.
It was another comprehensive performance from the Americans, who impressed the crowd on hand at the Hong Kong Football Club Stadium with the mesmerizing precision of their attacking sequences.
Madison Taylor and Emma LoPinto spearheaded the offensive output with a combined 17 points. Taylor amassed five goals and four assists and was named player of the match, and LoPinto totaled five goals and three assists.
Kate Levy added four points, and Noel Cumberland and Brigid Duffy scored four and three goals, respectively.
Maddie Epke recorded an 11 for 14 win rate on draw controls, and Madi Smith filled in without skipping a beat with a 12 of 15 win rate herself.
Ailani Ubarry made eight saves in the first three quarters for Puerto Rico. Hannah Lewis scored the first goal for Puerto Rico in the second quarter.
The United States is likely a win away from sealing its playoff berth, and will face China on Sunday.
Puerto Rico is still very much alive in its quest for spot in the final eight as well, but has two tough tests against China and Germany remaining.
