The United States powered past Puerto Rico, 31-6, in the quarterfinals of the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship on Wednesday in Hong Kong, China.
The United States advanced to the semifinals and will face Australia, the No. 3 seed, on Thursday at 4 p.m. HKT at Mong Kok Stadium.
The USA came out of the gates with a scorching start at Hong Kong Football Club Stadium, scoring five goals in the first five minutes, and 11 goals in the first quarter.
Seven different players scored for the United States before a player scored twice. It was a surgical attacking performance and the possession control was keyed by Maddie Epke, who was stellar on the draw again.
From there, the United States rolled through the rest of the game, finishing with a 34-5 advantage on draw controls and a 48-8 advantage on shots.
Emma Munchnick earned player of the match honors and finished with two goals, two assists, two ground balls and a caused turnover.
The USA distributed the scoring evenly among its attacking cast with ten different players recording multi-goal efforts. Brigid Duffy, Caitlin Barrett and Madison Taylor each scored four, and Madison Alaimo recorded the most assists with three.
Epke finished with 33 wins on the draw control, collecting 24 personally.
Hannah Lewis and Alexa Vega scored two goals each for Puerto Rico. Goalkeeper Ailani Ubarry made eight saves.
Puerto Rico returns to action on Thursday against Wales at 4 p.m.
