(Uganda) Team Uganda will be competing for the first time in a world championship event when it travels to Denver in July, but you wouldn’t know that by listening to Uganda’s Head Coach, Andrew Boston.
“If we can go out there and be the toughest team, then we have a chance,” Boston told NTV Uganda reporter, Sam Mpoza, in a recent interview. Boston boldly added, “We’re not going to Denver simply to play. We’re going to Denver to win.”

Uganda will be competing in the Yellow Division against Ireland, France and Bermuda (see Division breakdowns below). Uganda’s first game will be against Ireland on Friday, July 11th. Unlike many national teams competing in this year’s world championship who utilize players that play(ed) for United States and Canadian colleges, universities and professional teams, Uganda’s team will be comprised of 100% Ugandan players. “What makes this team from Uganda special as well, is that all men are from Uganda,” Boston stated proudly. “The team that comes, will be the team that plays.”

The 2014 Federation of International Lacrosse Men’s World Championship will be hosted by US Lacrosse at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Denver from July 10-19, 2014.
The 38 teams will be a record for the FIL World Championship, surpassing the mark of 29 set for the 2010 championship in Manchester, England. The last time the U.S. hosted the world championship, in 1998 in Baltimore, there were only 11 nations competing.
Along with Uganda, eight other nations are expecting to compete for the first time. They are Belgium, China, Colombia, Costa Rica, Israel, Russia, Thailand and Turkey.
