The SLA was formed in October 2012 and is led by their President, Ed Burnam. The SLA has been recognized as an organization within the Government of Singapore. Singapore has received much appreciated assistance from Thailand and sponsors. According to Burnam, “the Thailand team has been very generous since planting the lacrosse seed here in Singapore in 2011. Enigma Apparel has supported us with uniforms, which has freed up money for our development clinics and local growth. A local Singapore sponsor, Brewerkz, has taken us on as a team as well.”
Within its first year, SLA successfully competed in five official international men’s matches, with a record of four wins and one loss. On April 20th, SLA hosted the Hong Kong men’s and women’s teams for the inaugural Lacrosse games in Singapore. Recently, both the men’s and women’s teams competed in the 2013 Asian-Pacific Lacrosse Tournament (ASPAC) hosted by China in June.
The SLA has already been very active conducting clinics in more than 10 area schools and holding numerous open clinics for interested players. The SLA has conducted a comprehensive coach’s education clinic and has presented the sport to over 90 delegates in the Singapore Sports Conference.
