Scotland ended its campaign at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship with a 20-10 win over Korea in the 17th place game at Shek Kip Mei Sports Park on Friday.
Scotland finished with two wins in its last two games in Hong Kong, China, and had a tough pool, where it played close contests against Italy, a top-eight finisher, and New Zealand.
Korea finished in 18th place with one win against Germany.
Korea started the game strong with a 4-1 lead thanks to three goals in a row from Lauren Park, but Scotland responded with 10 goals in a row in the next 20 minutes of action.
Phobe Kim scored her second and third goals on either side of halftime for Korea to cut the lead to five and her team hung around for the third quarter.
In the fourth, Scotland found a final burst and went on a 6-1 run to get to 20 goals.
Rowan Scobie was named the player of the match for her five goals and one assist. Carys Bucknall had another strong performance in attack with four goals and three assists.
Anna Hutchison and Robyn Macdonald keyed a strong day on draw controls for Scotland, with Hutchison going 12 of 17 and Macdonald going 7 of 11.
Phoebe Kim and Lauren Park both produced five-goal efforts for Korea. Elena Oh made seven saves.
Scotland’s attack was fueled by Bucknall throughout the championship, as she totaled 17 goals and five assists. Scobie chipped in 13 goals and four assists while Macdonald and Katie Macleod also added over 10 points each. Hutchison and Macdonald both won over 30 draw controls at over a 50% success rate.
Korea enjoyed two star attacking talents shining their brightest in Hong Kong, with Lauren Park tallying 26 goals and Phoebe Kim racking up 19 goals and six assists. Park also took the lion’s share of Korea’s work on draws, winning 46 over six matches.
Oh also made 55 saves in six matches for Korea.
