About the Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships
The Under-19 World Lacrosse Championships (U-19’s) are held separately for men and women about every 4 years to find the world champions for the under-19 age group in lacrosse. Through the 2008 men’s U-19 championship, the men’s championship was sanctioned by the International Lacrosse Federation (ILF) and the women’s championship was sanctioned by the International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse Associations (IFWLA). In August 2008, the two bodies merged to form the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL), which now governs both competitions.
The U-19 Championship was first held for men in 1988 and for women in 1995. The United States has won the Men’s U-19s every single year it has been held and has won the Women’s U-19s for the past four events.
