“We welcome Malaysia as our newest member,” says Tom Hayes, the Director of Development for the FIL, “and we congratulate our member countries in Southeast Asia for assisting in their development to allow them to progress toward FIL associate membership.”
Jessie Kemp, the Director of Operations for Malaysia lacrosse reports, “In October of 2013, Prantarit Nerngchamnong and the Thailand team held a tournament in Bangkok which Malaysia was invited to participate for the very first time. This started the general interest and helped introduce the world’s fastest growing sport to the region. Since that tournament two organizations started, one in Kuala Lumpur and one in Penang. Both teams have been organizing practices for both expat and local players and the response has been overwhelming! People of all ages and backgrounds have joined in. The two clubs are planning on not only playing each other but have also entered in Tournaments in Bangkok and Singapore later this year. “
