Four-team field set for Super Sixes in Oshawa, Canada

The 2023 Women’s Super Sixes – Canada is set for October 6-8 in Oshawa, Ontario, featuring women’s national teams from Canada, the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, Kenya and the United States.

Lacrosse Canada is hosting the event in Oshawa for the second year in a row after a three-team competition in 2022 that featured Canada, England and the Haudenosaunee.

In 2021, the first Super Sixes event was held in Maryland, with men’s and women’s teams from the United States, Canada and the Haudenosaunee.

The 2023 competition is the first time the women’s sixes teams from Canada and the United States will meet since the gold medal game of The World Games 2022, in Birmingham, Alabama, when Canada toppled the USA, 14-12, to claim its first senior women’s gold medal.

Both rosters are full of international talent, as Canada returns five players from the gold-medal winning squad in Dana Dobbie, Erica Evans, Megan Kinna, Lauren Spence and Brooklyn Walker-Welch. In addition, Alex Matsuoka, Skylar McArthur and Shonly Wallace return from the team that won the 2022 Super Sixes on home soil.

The United States roster features nine Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse players, including three who won gold medals at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship in Dempsey Arsenault, Lizzie Colson and Ally Mastroianni, and two silver medalists from The World Games 2022 in Marge Donovan and Sam Swart.

The Haudenosaunee roster features seven players who competed in The World Games 2022, led by Lois Garlow, Fawn Porter, Jalyn Jimerson and goalkeeper Paige Crandall.

Kenya is traveling a team of domestic players to Canada to compete in an international women’s event for the first time since 2019, when it competed at the women’s U19 championship in Peterborough, Canada. Mackline Osaji competed on that team and features on the roster again.
