England improved to 2-0 with another definitive win in Pool D at the women’s U20 championship, defeating the host Hong Kong, China, 18-1.
England’s speed, depth and attacking chemistry were on display again at the Hong Kong Football Club with eight players scoring goals and six players registering multi-goal efforts. It was a strong statement in England’s quest to return to the podium in this championship.
Freya Moody was named the player of the match with three goals. Rachael Ball scored four, Annie Mather added three and Charlie Bell chipped in two goals and two assists. Ella Dimbylow was superb on draws again, winning 10 of 12.
Sophia Chan and Yutong Liu combined for 10 saves in goal for Hong Kong.
England can wrap up a playoff spot with a third win on Sunday, but will have to contend with Japan.
Hong Kong, China is back tomorrow against Ireland, who will be a tough opponent having ousted Japan in its opener.
