FIL will stage a four-day, six-team Women’s Lacrosse Tournament August 4-7 at the 2017 IWGA World Games.

Teams have yet to be determined, however, the order of finish at the 2013 Women’s World Cup in Oshawa will factor heavily in the selection of the first five teams, with host Poland as the sixth team.

The final medals of the multi-sport event will be awarded on 13 August in Gymnastics, Inline Hockey, Muaythai, Tug of War and Waterskiing. The World Games 2017 will showcase 28 sports altogether within the official sports program, with an additional four invitational sports.

Joachim Gossow, IWGA CEO, stated: “We informed our member federations about the schedule during the recent Competitions Managers’ Meeting in Wroclaw. It was presented following agreement with the Local Organizing Committee, taking into consideration the requirements our member federations mentioned in their applications.”

“Slight changes in the competition timing will be still possible within each day,” the IWGA CEO explained. The IWGA sports department and the local organizers will take care of special requests, for example from the host broadcaster. For this reason, the daily schedule with starting times will be announced later.

Joachim Gossow described the challenge of scheduling a program of a multi-sports event: “We had to compose a mix of sports and disciplines to ensure highlights on each day of The World Games. There is always the challenge of balancing weekends with the days in between, because the organizers expect more spectators on Saturdays and Sundays. At the same time we also had to bear in mind the number of athletes that will be in Wroclaw each day. It’s a challenge for every host city to deal with transport and accommodation for large numbers of people, so we had to consider these factors, too.

IWGA expects around 4,500 participants from some 100 countries. During the ten days of competition, around 200 medal events will take place.
