China has been one of the storylines of the women’s U20 championship so far in Hong Kong, and it collected its second win in a row against Germany on day three, 19-10.
China finished in 14th in 2019 in Peterborough in the last edition of this event, and has opened its campaign in 2024 with decisive wins over Israel and Germany, who finished in eighth five years ago.
China’s attacking cast showed its depth with different players contributing to the box score than on opening day. Lauren Ruilan Lam posted five goals and an assist, as well as a 13 of 17 win rate on draw controls to earn the player of the match award.
Kit Pingyu Zanelli and Michelli Yuli Zhai added four goals each and Sara Junlan Curley chipped in three points.
Kiana Böhm made eight saves in the final three quarters for Germany and Macy Zeilman paced the attack with four goals and an assist.
China is 2-0 in Pool A, as are the United States and Puerto Rico, China’s remaining two opponents. While a matchup against the USA on Sunday might be a tall ask, the Monday collision with Puerto Rico is shaping up to have massive implications in the playoff picture.
Germany faces Israel on Sunday and then Puerto Rico on Monday, and with two wins and some help, could still find its way into the playoffs.
