Australia and the Haudenosaunee were also in the win column for the day as Germany fell to 0-2 and Israel was handed its first loss.

Tomorrow’s concluding preliminary round games will determine which four teams advance to Monday’s semifinals.

In game one, Australia jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first quarter and never looked back, earning its first win by putting up a total of 24 goals in 32 minutes of play compared to eight for Germany. Gordon Purdie was the star of the game for the Aussies, tallying five goals and a total of six points. Three additional players registered hat tricks in the winning effort, including Luke Keesing, Campbell Mackinnon and Jack Price.

Meanwhile, Justin Wismer carried the German offense, tallying five of the team’s eight goals.

Canada’s scoring prowess was again on display in the second game of the day, a 26-10 victory over Japan to go up 2-0. The Canadians have now totaled 47 goals over two games to lead the tournament. Josh Byrne was again a major threat, scoring on all six shots he took to move into the tournament lead with 10 goals and 13 points, followed by Shinya Tateishi, who had five points (3-2—5) in the losing effort for Japan, and sits at nine goals and 11 points overall.

The third game featured the Haudenosaunee’s first win in Birmingham by a 16-12 count over Israel. Israel struck first, but the Haudenosaunee quickly turned it around and maintained a lead through the rest of the match, though Israel stayed within striking distance. Ron John, Kyle Jackson and Tehoka Nanticoke paced the Haudenosaunee with a trio of hat tricks, while Ian Kadish and Matt Popeck led Israel with four goals apiece.

In the day’s final matchup, the United States and Great Britain traded goals throughout the first 16 minutes, entering the second half at a 4-4 stalwart before the Americans pulled away to a 17-9 victory to remain undefeated in Group A.
