Trio of Venues to Host 2015 WILC

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — The Carrier Dome will host the gold and bronze medal games of the 2015 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World Indoor Championships, while Onondaga Nation and the War Memorial Arena in Syracuse will also serve as sites for games Sept. 18-27.

The announcement was made a press conference at the Carrier Dome prior to the Syracuse-Albany men’s game. FIL president Stan Cockerton, Oren Lyons of the Onondaga Nation and Syracuse coach John Desko were in attendance as well as local officials.

The opening ceremony and games will be held at War Memorial Arena. Onondaga Nation Arena will also host games. Closing ceremonies will be held at the Carrier Dome as well. Thirteen nations will participate in the tournament.

“On behalf of the Federation of International Lacrosse and all our members, I would like to extend our best wishes and gratitude to the Haudenosaunee for hosting the FIL 2015 World Indoor Lacrosse Championships,” Cockerton said. “We are confident that hosting the 2015 WILC in Onondaga Nation and in Syracuse will result in an event that will set a benchmark for future events to aspire to.”

The FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championship is an international tournament that is held every four years. The 2011 FIL World Indoor Lacrosse Championships were held in Prague, Czech Republic. The defending World Champions are Canada, with the Iroquois Nationals finishing second and the United States finishing third.
