Coquitlam, BC — The Federation of International Lacrosse will open its eighth U19 Men’s Lacrosse World Championship in Coquitlam, BC, Canada tomorrow with a much-awaited 2012 championship game rematch between the United States and tournament host Canada.
Opening ceremonies will begin at 5:30 pm PDT (UTC-07:00) at Percy Perry Stadium in Town Centre Park with the USA-Canada matchup at 7:30 pm.

As fans may recall, the USA had a perfect 36-0 record entering the 2012 U19 men’s lacrosse championship in Turku, Finland only to lose a pair of round robin games. The first loss came at the hands of this year’s hosts Canada, 11-9, and the second to the Iroquois Nationals, 15-13. The 2012 US squad did come back in the medal round to win its seventh-straight world championship – defeating the Iroquois Nationals 12-7 in the semis and then Canada 10-8 for the gold – but it was clear that the competition had finally caught up with them.
The 2016 championship is shaping up to be just as exciting as 2012, expanding to a record-high 14 teams.
Blue Division teams feature Canada, the United States, the Iroquois Nationals, Australia and England. The Red Division includes Israel, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany and Mexico and the Green Division is composed of China, Ireland, Scotland and the Republic of Korea.
Six teams will be making U19 men’s world championship debuts (Israel, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Mexico, China and Ireland) and, for the first time, four teams will be competing from Asia (China, Hong Kong, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan).
