World Lacrosse today announced two updates to its Athletes’ Commission, with James Devine (NZL) selected as the chair of the commission and Ben Muxlow (AUS) elected as the new men’s box representative.

Muxlow was elected at the end of 2024 to a four-year term by athletes who participated in the men’s box championship. Devine has served on the Athletes’ Commission since July 2023 as the men’s field representative, and as the newly elected chair, will serve on the World Lacrosse board of directors.

“It is a great privilege to be elected chair of the World Lacrosse Athletes’ Commission,” said Devine. “This is an exciting time for lacrosse, and I’m committed to ensuring athletes remain at the heart of what we do. I look forward to driving the continued development of our sport with the support of my fellow commission members.”

Jane Lee was the previous chair of the Athletes’ Commission and will move into the role of vice chair, thus remaining on the WL board of directors.

Outgoing men’s box representative Sean Gibson will also depart from his role as vice chair of the commission. Gibson was a founding member of the Athletes’ Commission and served as its first chair beginning in 2018. Gibson reached over 100 international caps with Ireland at the 2024 Men’s Box Championship, his ninth WL championship.

Muxlow has been involved with lacrosse in Australia for more than 25 years, and has played in two World Lacrosse Men’s Box Championships (2019, 2024) and the 2018 WL Men’s Championship. He helped create the Perth Box League in Western Australia in 2019 and has continued in a leadership role with the league. He has also coached multiple state teams at Australian national championships and has played a key role in Lacrosse Australia administration.

Devine has represented New Zealand at four World Lacrosse Men’s Championships from 2010 to 2023 and was elected to a four-year term on the Athletes’ Commission through 2027. Devine works professionally as a lawyer within the sports industry with experience with World Sailing and the International Tennis Federation.
