World Lacrosse today announced the host city bidding process for its 2027 Sixes Championships has reopened. The first set of world championships for men’s and women’s sixes will serve as the primary qualifier for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championships will now take place in the September to November timeframe, offering host cities the opportunity to showcase lacrosse less than a year prior to the Olympics and become part of the sport’s burgeoning history.
Lacrosse is being welcomed back to the Olympic stage as a medal sport for the first time in 120 years and the sixes championships will provide a global stage for the rapidly growing discipline built on speed, skill, excitement and accessibility. Sixes made its successful international debut at The World Games 2022.
In January, World Lacrosse awarded the 2025 Men’s U20 Championship to Seogwipo on Jeju Island in Korea, and the 2026 Women’s Championship and 2027 Men’s Championship to Japan.
