Czechia spoils opening day for host Poland at the 2025 European Men’s Lacrosse Championship

Day one of the 2025 European Men’s Lacrosse Championship featured a thrilling standalone contest between the host Poland and Czechia, two teams that both appeared at the last World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in 2023.

Czechia withstood a fierce fourth quarter comeback effort from Poland to hang on for a 10-9 win. Czechia lead 10-6 entering the final frame, but kept Poland from finding the tying goal in the last five minutes to notch the first win of the championship in Wroclaw.

With three minutes to go, goalkeeper Jacob Malasek made the crucial save, his 10th of the game, on Sebastian Rzeczycki, who had scored twice already.

Caiden Vlasimsky’s hot shooting was the story of the evening, with six of Czechia’s 10 goals and two assists as well.

Lucas Hucal scored three goals for Poland while Matthew Dyszkiewicz added four points.

Czechia now leads Pool B after one day of action, with a leg up on the rest of the 24-team field. The top eight teams will advance to the quarterfinals after the conclusion of pool play, and the top seven teams will qualify for the 2027 World Lacrosse Men’s Championship in Tokyo, Japan.

The five pool winners will advance to the quarterfinals while the three-best second place teams will join the final octet.

Statistics throughout the championship are available at worldlacrosse.sport/emlc25 and live streaming is free at WL TV and LAX TV.
