Canada secured its spot in the playoffs of the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship on day four with a win over Chinese Taipei at Hong Kong Football Club Stadium.
Canada became the second team in the championship to improve to 3-0, and wins over teams in second through fourth place in the pool, Canada is guaranteed to finish atop Pool B even with a game remaining.
Canada rolled to a 22-2 victory and won each game by more than 12 goals while allowing six total in three games.
Jami Macdonald scored five goals and was named the player of the match. Reese Whiteman supported the offensive output with three goals and an assist. Five other players had multi-goal outings.
Beth Anderson was dominant again on draws, winning 23 of 26 and snaring 22 controls herself. Lauren Spence made three saves on three shots faced.
Mia Chao and Annika Wray scored for Chinese Taipei.
While Canada’s spot in the playoffs is locked up, it will race against Australia and the United States, the two other 3-0 teams in the field, for overall seeding in the playoff bracket. Canada’s last pool play game is against Korea on Monday.
Chinese Taipei fell to 1-2 and has one game remaining against the Haudenosaunee on Monday, and while it faces an uphill climb in goal differential, could still reach a three-way tie for second in the standings with the Haudenosaunee and Wales in the pool.
