(POZNAN, POLAND) A referee clinic was held in May over the course of two days in Poznan Poland and attended by 18 die hard lacrosse players. This included 1.5 days in the classroom followed by some on field work where the clinicians, Don Blacklock (USA) and Christian Geschke (Germany), were able to demonstrate and practice on field positioning and mechanics. The new Polish Officials program will be headed up by Jedrzej Baginski who will continue forward from the foundation created by the FIL clinic.
This was Don’s first visit to a county with such a fledgling lacrosse program and he was absolutely blown away by the commitment and willingness to learn by the participants. This became even more apparent when it came time for the exam and the participants achieved 6 distinctions (score 90 or better). 7 others scored 80 or better, which was a remarkable result. The fact that the final 6 who did not pass was not down to any lack of enthusiasm, but rather more likely Don and Christian’s lack in the Polish language department.
Christian Geschke from Germany who helped Don deliver the two day clinic was an able assistant and FIL is pleased to think that he will now build on the lessons learned in Poland and deliver more clinics throughout Europe.
