In a battle of two 3-0 teams atop Pool B, Mexico prevailed thanks to another one of its opening flurries. Mexico went into halftime up 8-1 on the back of a 5-0 second quarter and Italy’s comeback effort only got within three. Mexico improved to 4-0 and secured its spot in the semifinals set to begin Thursday. At 3-1, Italy needs a win on Wednesday to earn its own playoff berth.
Izzy Szejk stepped up for Mexico with four goals while Ashleigh Rothe added three goals and a point. Szejk was named the player of the game for Mexico.
