World Lacrosse today announced the appointment of Wendy Cuthbert as chair of its Development Committee.
Cuthbert has served as a member of the World Lacrosse Development Committee since 2017 and has held the role of secretary, bringing extensive experience in global lacrosse development to the position. Cuthbert has also worked from the grassroots level to high performance in Ontario, her home province in Canada, as well as serving as a board member at the Provincial level, and as a director of National Championships with the Canadian Lacrosse Association (now Lacrosse Canada).
Cuthbert succeeds Rick Mercurio, who stepped down as Development Committee chair following his election to the World Lacrosse board of directors in late 2025.
Mercurio said: “It has been a privilege to lead the Development Committee, and I am delighted that someone of Wendy’s caliber will be the new chair. Her longstanding contributions to the committee and its track record of growth combined with her deep knowledge of the sport make her exceptionally well-suited to the role. The continued global development of our sport is crucial in the Olympic era, and I am fully confident Wendy will drive that work forward.”
Cuthbert said: “I am honoured to be appointed chair of the World Lacrosse Development Committee and look forward to continuing the collaborative work that has been so important to the growth of our sport worldwide. I look forward to working alongside our Continental Federations, member nations and staff to further enhance the development of athletes, coaches, and officials around the world. Through programs, resources, and strategic initiatives, the committee will continue to support both existing and emerging member nations in areas including skill development, governance, sustainability, and long-term growth of the sport.”
Cuthbert will begin chairing Development Committee meetings immediately, and the committee will fill three open positions in the coming months.
