Men’s Box Championship

Pool Play

  1. Following round-robin pool play, teams will first be ranked within their pools using the tie-breaking measures from the World Lacrosse Event Hosting and Competition Manual (included below)
  2. Following the completion of pool rankings, a combined ranking will be calculated for all 28 teams, with A-pool teams occupying the first four positions, and the remaining 24 teams ranked #5-28 based on the following:
    • Placement within pool (#1-4)
      • #1s will be compared against each other to be ranked #5-10
      • #2s will be compared against each other to be ranked #11-16
      • #3s will be compared against each other to be ranked #17-22
      • #4s will be compared against each other to be ranked #23-28
    • Comparison will utilize the following
      • Wins
      • Goal differential (goals for minus goals against), capped at 12 per game
      • Goals conceded (fewest)
      • Coin flip
  3. Teams ranked #1 – #8 advance directly to the playoffs, while teams ranked #9 – #16 move on to play-in round to determine the last four playoff seeds. This ensures that all #1s and #2s in pools B-G can advance:
    • 9-16 advance to a play-in round
      • Winning teams move to the playoffs; losing teams move to the placement 13-28 round
    • #5-8 receive a bye to the first round of playoffs
    • #1-4 receive a bye to the quarterfinals
  4. Teams ranked #17-28 in the combined ranking after pool play will move to the placement 13-28 round with the losing teams from the play-in games. Each team will play 4 bracket-style placement games and receive a final rank.
    • This includes all #3s and #4s in pools B-F, along with the losing play-in teams
