September 7, 2019 – Today was the first day of Coach Development opportunities for European coaches attending the Ken Gallucio Cup in Ghent, Belgium. Over 30 coaches participated the session 1 of 3 planned sessions designed to give coaches the tools and skills necessary to help their athletes reach their full potential. The session led by Rick Mercurio, Jane Pirie, Natalie Wills, and TJ Buchanan covered the basic skills of the game, as well as different teaching progressions, ensuring that there was information of value for all participants. TJ Buchanan, Director of Sport development was quoted with “it is exciting to see the geographic diversity in clinic registrants. I think that speaks volumes as to the desire of coaches to get better and take a more professional approach to coaching their teams.” The next session will have the coaches complete classroom programming and begin to develop plans for coaching the athletes they currently coach, followed by sessions focused on applying the techniques they learn, The clinic begin presented were made possible through a Ball, Cockerton Hayes (BCH) grant in collaboration with the European Lacrosse Federation.
