China secured its first win at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship, defeating Chinese Taipei, 17-4, in placement play on Wednesday night in Seogwipo, Korea.
China ran up the lead to 11-1 in a fast-paced first quarter and coasted from there the rest of the night. China outshot Chinese Taipei 51-14 and won 20 out of 23 face-offs.
China advanced in the bracket towards 13th place and will face another Asia-Pacific foe in Korea on Thursday at 12:10 p.m.
Chinese Taipei will enter a round robin between 17th and 19th place, beginning play on Friday against Kenya at 11:10 a.m.
China allowed just nine shots on goal and force 28 turnovers from its opponent. Walter Zhao excelled again on face-offs.
Jameson Wong made five saves and scored a goal at the end of the third quarter in a rare feat.

Offensively, Cody Lam exploded for six goals and an assist. Zhao contributed to the attack as well with four points on two goals and two assists. Zhao Xingshun and Luo Tao both added three-point efforts.
Chiuan-You Li contributed to all four of China’s goals and Bo-An Chen scored two. You-En Ye made seven saves.
