Canada returned to the gold medal game with a polished 13-5 win over Australia in the semifinals of the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Friday afternoon on Jeju Island.
Australia gave Canada a tough battle in the rematch of the team’s meeting from pool play, but Canada had answers all around the field, leading 7-2 at halftime and stamping the win with a 4-1 frame in the fourth quarter.
Canada outshot Australia by 12 with a shots on goal edge of eight, and made the most of its opportunities with a shot percentage 15 points better than Australia.
Canada has now advanced to the final of the Men’s U20 Championship for the seventh consecutive edition, with the gold medal game set for Sunday at 1 p.m. against the United States, Canada’s longtime rival.
Australia will play for bronze against the Haudenosaunee and look to claim its first medal in the competition since 2003 and unseat the defending medallists.
Jack Oldman and Jared Maznik helped Canada to a 63% winning percentage on face-offs, and Grayson Manning backstopped Canada nicely with eight saves on 13 shots on goal.
Max Frattaroli’s finishing was too much for the impressive Australian defense to handle with three goals, and Canada also received a standout performance from Chris Rathwell with two goals and two assists. David Peterkin and Justin Tavares had their hand in the win with three points each.
Frattaroli is up to 20 points total through five games.
For Australia, Will Butler made six saves. Jack Cooper led all attackers with two points.
