The two teams were neck and neck after 60 minutes of regulation, including a timeless fourth quarter when Australia ripped off two separate flurries of back-to-back strikes. The first featured two goals in six seconds to lead 12-10 with the second barrage of two goals in 11 seconds putting Australia up with 14-11 with 2:50 to play.
But the Haudenosaunee responded with a stunning display of resolve, tying the game at 14-14 with 23 seconds to play after two clutch lasers from Chace Cogan, with the tying goal Cogan’s fourth.
In overtime, the Haudenosaunee got the ball first and Cogan looked to be the hero once again, only to have his shot saved by Australia’s Ethan Jaffe, his 12th stop of the game.
On the ensuing possession, Hudson Robb collected a feed on the left hand side from Toby Templeton and uncorked immediately with a natural screen in front of goal to find the bottom corner and spark the Aussie celebration.
