Tournament featuring new lacrosse discipline sees 363 goals in 385 minutes across 12 high-energy games

PLL Rookie of the Year Jeff Teat leads all players with 19 points, as Canada and U.S. men’s and women’s teams compile matching 3-1 records

SPARKS, Maryland, USA – World Lacrosse Sixes made a statement in its debut among the world’s top teams here this weekend at the Super Sixes tournament, which featured 12 games of non-stop action that included 363 goals in 385 minutes. Canada and the U.S. matched efforts across their men’s and women’s teams, each earning a 3-1 record with their sole losses coming to one another.

Though the Haudenosaunee Confederacy remained winless across the two-day round-robin tournament, the men’s team featured in one of the weekend’s highlight games, a 17-16 overtime thriller against Canada.

Canada’s Jeff Teat (Brampton, Ontario) – the Premier Lacrosse League Rookie of the Year – led all men with 12 goals and 19 points, and tied with the United States’ Brad Smith (Mountain Lakes, New Jersey) with seven assists. On the women’s side, Canada’s Erica Evans (Peterborough, Ontario) paced the field with 16 points, while teammate Eve Hritzuk (Sherwood Park, Alberta) led with 13 goals and the Haudenosaunee Confederacy’s Jalyn Jimerson (Collins, New York) topped the chart with seven assists.

Canada’s Dana Dobbie (Fergus, Ontario), who finished the tournament tied for fifth with 12 points, said: “Sixes brings out the best in the lacrosse player, it forces us to play fast, physical and make spilt-second decisions on both sides of the ball – everything we love about field and box rolled into one discipline. The consistency between the men’s and women’s game has finally been created. All players and fans now have the format of lacrosse they’ve been waiting for. I truly believe Sixes will eliminate the discrepancy between counties and allow for quicker growth for the sport of lacrosse around the globe. If you haven’t played it yet, you’re missing out!”

World Lacrosse CEO Jim Scherr said: “The fastest game on two feet just got supercharged; Super Sixes was every bit as thrilling as we expected it to be, with fans glued to their seats and screens for a version of lacrosse we’ve never seen before. This was a historic moment for our sport, and a strong validation of the potential of this new discipline to make lacrosse a truly global game and allow us to realize our Olympic ambitions.”

All 12 games were broadcast live on Lax Sports Network, and are now available for on-demand viewing both on LSN and the World Lacrosse YouTube channel.

The 2021 World Lacrosse Sixes calendar will conclude in early December, with the Torneo Centroamericano Bicentenario taking place in Costa Rica featuring men’s teams from Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama.
