Ahead of the 2024 World Lacrosse Box Championships this September, Australia announced its leadership team for its women’s box lacrosse squad.
Mel Brickle was named the captain of the first ever Australia women’s box team and Abbie Burgess-Brice and Charlotte Whinnen were named as alternatives.
“I am completely humbled, honored, and elated at the opportunity to lead this amazing group of pioneering women,” said Brickle. “We are working towards something pretty special in Utica this September, and I can’t wait to take the floor.”
“I’ve always thought of captains as being players that lead by example and will always have your back,” said head coach Chris De Mello. “I feel that this is a great way to describe Mel, Charlotte and Abbie and what they will do for our team.”
The full roster for Australia can be found here.
“The lacrosse IQ of this squad is pretty high and a major strength of this team with the cohesiveness of the squad also a strength, to be able to switch from squad mates, to state team rivals, then back to squad mates has been fairly amazing to watch, everyone wants to be part of this team”.
