The Haudenosaunee and Israel both won thrilling quarterfinal contests to advance to the semifinals for the first time in their history on day six of the Nissin Foods 2026 World Lacrosse Women’s Championship.

Both games were one-goal contests full of shot-making, saves and incredible drama that came down to the final seconds.

Two more quarterfinals await in the evening.

The championship can be streamed at WL TV with an event pass, offered at US$44 for the 44 games of action.

Live statistics are available at worldlacrosse.sport/Tokyo2026.

Seven of the top eight teams from the 2022 women’s championship return to the final eight, joined by Puerto Rico, the 11th place finishers then. The three defending medalists – England, Canada and the United States – all won their pools, but fourth-ranked Australia finished behind Canada and will grapple with an undefeated Israel team.

Outside of the top four ranked teams, the other four have never made a semifinal appearance in the women’s championship.

The Haudenosaunee shocked England with a winner in the final seconds to advance to the semifinals for the first time in their history. Avery Doran slid a crafty left-handed shot in the net with five seconds to play to cap a wildly entertaining affair and oust the defending bronze medalist.

The quarterfinal featured five lead changes and no team led by more than two goals the entire game. England led by two heading into the fourth quarter, but the Haudenosaunee took the lead with three goals in eight minutes before England knotted the game again with three and a half minutes to play.

Doran’s winner was her fifth point of the game, coming on an assist from Sierra Cockerille, her second of the game. Jalyn Jimerson added three goals and Paige Crandall stepped up massively with 12 saves on 21 shots on goal in one of the goalkeeping performances of the tournament.

Doran increased her point total to 16, the second most in the tournament after the first pair of quarterfinals, and she was named the player of the match. Crandall leads the championship with 34 saves.

Britt Read made eight saves for England, and three players had two goals each in the England attack.

The Haudenosaunee’s best ever finish at a women’s championship was eighth in 2022 in their fourth appearance, but their semifinal run secures a record top-four finish. England’s streak of two bronze medals in a row was snapped.

Israel turned in another clutch fourth quarter and made a last-minute stand to hold off Australia and advance to its first-ever semifinal at a women’s championship. Up by one as time was running out Julie Krupnick made a point-blank save with the frame of her stick to deny Ashtyn Hiron the equalizer.

In the ensuing chaos, Australia regained possession of the ball with 20 seconds left but Israel won one last ground ball from Racheli Levy-Smith to see out the game.

Israel trailed by one entering the fourth quarter but scored the first three goals of the period with a surge similar to its push to close out Japan on Tuesday. Both teams traded spectacular goals throughout the afternoon in a display of finishing and star power.

Jordyn Lipkin continued her tear through opposing defenses this championship with three goals and an assist, but with a considerable amount of defensive attention on her, Hannah Hilcoff stepped into a lead role and found four goals including three in the second half. Hilcoff was named the player of the match.

Krupnick and Orly Sedansk combined for seven saves.

In defeat, Theo Kwas shouldered the Australian attacking burden with four points, and Bec Lane added three. Mim Suares-Jury had a strong game in midfield with five ground balls and three caused turnovers, but the Israel defense limited her to no goals and Georgia Latch to just two.

Israel finished a program-best sixth at the women’s championship in 2017 and 2022, and has secured a top-four finish in 2026. Israel snapped Australia’s top-four streak in all 11 editions of the championship dating back to 1982.
