Germany cruised to a 17-8 win over Kenya to close pool play with its second victory at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Tuesday in Seogwipo, Korea.
Germany more than doubled up Kenya on shots, won 20 of 29 face-offs and slowly but surely controlled the game after pushing the score to 8-3 through 17 minutes of action.
With the win and the later Puerto Rico win over Chinese Taipei, Germany secured its spot in the play-in round as the 11th seed as the second place team in Pool E.
Germany will face the sixth seed, Japan, on Wednesday at 9 a.m. for a chance in the quarterfinals.
Kenya plays Israel in placement play towards 13th place at 12:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
Kenya scored its highest total in three games, and forced Germany into 22 turnover in a spirited effort. But Germany still enjoyed a 47-22 shots advantage and 27-18 advantage in shots on goal.
Erik Mischel made seven saves in net for Germany while Eric Schmiedl and Otto Kemps excelled on face-offs.
Aaron Trapp stayed in form with three goals and two assists for Germany, bringing his campaign total to a team-high 10 points.
Fionn Mulvey added four points for Germany and Zenonas Schmidt recorded a hat trick.
Renny Gabriel stepped up for Kenya with four goals and an assist while Benjamin Mulesi recorded another three-point effort.
Razaq Saleh made 10 saves.
Germany will await the result of Puerto Rico vs. Chinese Taipei and hope to be in action on Wednesday in the play-in round. Kenya will continue in placement play.
