Ireland turned in a complete performance in its opener at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship, shutting out Israel for a 9-0 win on day one of action in Seogwipo, Korea.
Ireland swarmed up and down the field on the afternoon and outshot Israel 43-10, coaxing Israel into 21 turnovers.
Ireland’s ball control was dominant, but goalkeeper Euan McKeever did his part to preserve the shutout, finishing with a perfect seven for seven on shots faced.
Offensively, Ireland managed the heat and pace of play expertly, picking its moments for Boomer Staunton and Declan Butler to score. Staunton had two goals and two assists while Butler posted three goals and an assist.
Israel won nine of 12 face-offs, sparked by Jacob Coneh. Eyvatar Bahar also made five saves.
Ireland improved to 1-0, joining Mexico atop Pool E. Ireland will face China on Sunday while Israel will take on Mexico.
