World Lacrosse awards inaugural Division II championships to Wrocław, Poland

Poland takes on Spain in Wroclaw at the 2024 European Men's Lacrosse Championship

World Lacrosse today announced Wrocław, Poland, as the host for the inaugural division II championships for women’s and men’s field lacrosse, set for 2026 and 2027.

The WL Women’s Championship Division II and WL Men’s Championship Division II are part of World Lacrosse’s new championship structure, which includes narrowed fields of 16 teams at the top level. Spots for the top and Division II championships are secured via continental championships.

WL CEO Jim Scherr said: “I am thrilled to announce Wroclaw as the host for our Division II championships, which will provide a World Lacrosse championship experience for more of our members and increase competitive opportunities across our diverse community. Poland Lacrosse has been an exceptional host already to numerous lacrosse championships, and I believe the inaugural editions of our Division II championships will reinforce our shared vision for the global growth of the game.”

The WL Women’s Championship Division II, set for July 10-18, 2026, will feature 16 teams and the Continental Federation allocations are set at nine teams from the European Lacrosse Federation, four from the Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union and three from the Pan-American Lacrosse Association.

The WL Men’s Championship Division II, set for July 9-17, 2027, will feature 24 teams and the Continental Federation allocations are set at 14 teams for ELF, four each from APLU and PALA, and two from AAL.

The championships will take place preceding the Division I championships held in Japan in both years.

Poland Lacrosse will serve as the host for both championships and has been a frequent host of international competition with Wroclaw also serving as the venue for the 2025 and 2022 editions of the European Men’s Lacrosse Championship, and the 2024 European Men’s U20 Lacrosse Championship.

The competition venue will be Pola Marsowe, a large complex of fields at the Wroclaw University of Health and Sport Sciences and Wroclaw Youth Sports Center.
