The United States finished pool play with a comprehensive 32-8 win over Czechia to stay perfect through day three of the women’s sixes competition at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China.
“I think this is a special group,” said Chloe Humphrey of the United States. “We have veterans and Marie McCool has been around for 10 years now and she said there’s never been this type of connectivity on the team. Even though it is my first time on the senior team with these incredible players, there is something special about this team and I’m honored that I can be a part of it.”
The United States got into gear in the second quarter and made the most of its transitional game to prevent the Czechs from setting up a defensive block when possible.
The United States improved to 3-0 and claimed the top spot in Pool B. Czechia finished pool play 1-2.
It took nearly three minutes for the United States to score, and the high-flying attack took its time to rev up in the first quarter with two goals in the first seven minutes.
But the United States snapped into its groove and found the right moments to unlock breakaway opportunities and uncontested shooting angles to post scoring flurries. The Americans had three goals in the final minute of the first quarter, and a four-goal stretch in the middle of the second quarter.
A nine-goal second quarter and a 10-goal third quarter did the trick, and the United States cruised into the next round.
Chloe Humphrey led all attackers with 11 points on six goals and five assists, a single-game tournament high so far in points.
Charlotte North added 10 points and Marie McCool had seven. All 10 field players recorded multiple points.
The goalkeepers Taylor Moreno and Shea Dolce combined for eight saves. The USA as a whole more than doubled Czechia on shots with a 53-24 advantage.
Katerina Najmnikova made 13 saves for Czechia. Anna Lottmann posted four points and Marketa Fiserova recorded three goals.
The United States will play in the first semifinal on Sunday at 1 p.m. Czechia will finalize its Sunday assignment after Saturday play concludes.
“The message is to stay hungry,” said Humphrey. “We didn’t come out on top in the past World Games in 2022 so nothing is given, and we have to earn everything, even just wearing USA across your jersey. We have to stay hungry and take the energy into the next game.”
