Hong Kong, China outlasted Chinese Taipei for a 19-8 win to take 17th place and close its campaign with two wins at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship on Saturday morning on Jeju Island in Korea.
Hong Kong started hot, leading 6-3 at halftime and 8-3 early in the third quarter, but Chinese Taipei pushed hard down the stretch, getting the lead down to two goals twice in the fourth.
Carter Li, Hong Kong’s most dynamic threat, fired in his fourth goal to make it 10-7 with eight minutes to go, and the Hong Kong defense held firm against a wave of Chinese Taipei attacks to hang for a two-goal win.
Hong Kong, China finished in 17th place in its third appearance at the men’s U20 championship and Chinese Taipei finished in 18th place in its third appearance.
Chinese Taipei outshot Hong Kong, China in the game, and won more draws, but Hong Kong’s shooting percentage was almost 15 points better, aided by an excellent day in net by Andrew Ho and his 14 saves.
Li finished with four goals and an assist, while Ethan Jones’s playmaking was on display with a goal and four assists. Baron Lee added a hat trick.
After five games, Li led Hong Kong with 24 points total on 17 goals and seven assists. Jones, Lee and Mike Mak finished with point totals over 10.
Chiuan-You Li and Bo-An Chen paced Chinese Taipei again with four goals and three points respectively.
Chen had 20 points through six games for his team and Li had 17.
