The Six Nations Chiefs won the 2025 Mann Cup on Sunday to claim their third title in a row as the men’s box lacrosse championships of Canada.
The Chiefs defeated the New Westminster Salmonbellies on the road in game seven, 12-7, at Queen’s Park Arena to cap off a thrilling and fiercely contested series full of World Lacrosse stars.
Ryan Smith was named the Mike Kelley award winner as the Most Valuable Player of the Mann Cup after registering 14 goals and 12 assists. Smith was a part of Canada’s gold medal team at the 2024 World Lacrosse Men’s Box Championship in Utica, New York, and had 15 points in four games for Canada.
The Six Nation Chiefs were stacked with members of the gold-medal winning Canadian team in 2024 including Josh Byrne, Shayne Jackson, Dhane Smith and Steve Priolo, who was named to the World Team as a defenseman.
Several members of the Haudenosaunee team that won the bronze medal at the 2024 Men’s Box Championship also starred for the Chiefs including World Team forward Randy Staats, Lyle Thompson, Nonkon Thompson, Kason Tarbell, Larson Sundown, Eli McLaughlin, Cody Jamieson, Brendan Bomberry and goalkeepers Warren Hill and Doug Jamieson.
Stars from both the Haudenosaunee and Canada will be in action in sixes lacrosse in the coming weeks in international competition. USA Lacrosse is hosting the Atlas Cup from September 26 to 28 before Lacrosse Canada hosts a World Lacrosse Super Sixes competition from October 10 to 12.
