Canada closed out pool play with a steady performance for a 13-8 win over the Haudenosaunee at the 2025 World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship in Seogwipo, Korea on Tuesday.
The two teams traded impressive displays of offense for most of the morning, but Canada’s 7-1 second quarter kept the Haudenosaunee from ever threatening the final result.
Canada outshot the Haudenosaunee 39-27 and a had 13-8 face-off advantage to stay in front.
Canada improved to 2-1 and finished the day with second seed overall in the playoff round while the Haudenosaunee are locked into the fourth seed.
Canada will play in the quarterfinals on Thursday at 4 p.m. against the winner of Ireland vs. Jamaica.
The Haudenosaunee’s quarterfinal is on Thursday at 9 a.m. against the winner of Puerto Rico vs. the Netherlands.
Max Frattaroli submitted another case as one of the best attackers in the championship with five goals and three assists for Canada. He ended the game with the second-best point toal in the championship with 14, although four more teams will play their third games on Tuesday.
Luke Robinson also added a hat trick, while goalkeepers Cam Sterritt and Grayson Manning combined for nine saves on 17 shots. Jack Oldman was 13 of 21 on his face-offs.
James Whitehorse and Bleyton Hopps-Thompson had three points each for the Haudenosaunee. The defense on the whole forced Canada into 14 turnovers.
Goalkeeper Ryder Johnson impressed again with 10 saves and through three games leads the championship with 44 total.
The seeding for the play-in round will be finalized after play on Tuesday with the winners on Wednesday advancing to the quarterfinals on Thursday. Both Canada and the Haudenosaunee will face intriguing challenges from a rising crop of teams. The four pool winners who will be the higher seeds in the play-in round are England, Ireland, Japan and Puerto Rico.
