Australia blanketed Ireland in a 18-7 win to finish pool play at The World Games 2025 and advance to the semifinals in the women’s sixes competition in China.
Australia allowed just two goals in the first three quarters of the game, and used its relentless peed on the dodge to consistently create valuable shooting opportunities for its cast of attackers.
Australia pressured Ireland into 12 turnovers and also enjoyed a 15-5 advantage on ground balls on the day
“The amount of caused turnovers we get, the ability to pressure the ball, even when we’re so gassed, it’s something about that Aussie spirit,” said Australia’s Mim Suares-Jury. “I give credit to our defensive coach Gav[in Leavy]. Every single pregame speech he harps on aggression, and that shows on the field, with today’s game and how we’ve been playing throughout the week.”
At 2-1, Australia took second place in Pool B and advanced to the semifinals, with a matchup set against Canada. Ireland fell to 0-3.
Australia started with three goals in the first quarter and exploded for a quick three goal sequence in 30 seconds midway through the second quarter with a few defensive turnovers to open the game up at 6-1.
A perfect 5-0 third quarter helped Australia on its way to the the win on a day when it outshot Ireland 38-18.
Mim Suares-Jury paced Australia with five goals and an assist. Georgia Latch put up five goals and Hannah Nielsen added four assists.
Haley Crosson made 15 saves in defeat for Ireland. Ava Brosnan added five points.
Australia will face Canada in the second semifinal on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. Ireland faces China in the seventh place game at 9 a.m.
“The biggest focus is to put together four quarters of the best execution we can,” said Suares-Jury. “I think it’s just executing 32 minutes of lacrosse, it’s a short game, even with the heat making it feel long. It’s just keeping up with that spirit.”

It’s special to be here and learn from our veteran players on the field and off the field. I’m lucky to be surrounded by such a strong Aussie culture and hopefully pass it on to future generations.
