Mexico will make its second appearance at the World Lacrosse Men’s U20 Championship at the 2025 edition on Jeju Island, Korea in August. The team returns to the competition for the first time since its debut at the 2016 U19 World Championship in Canada.
A key returner for Mexico is defenseman and long-stick midfielder Aaron Escobedo.
Escobedo represented Mexico at the 2023 World Lacrosse Championship in San Diego, California. He appeared in all seven games with five starts. The defender finished with 10 ground balls, four caused turnovers and one goal.
He also contributed on faceoffs, taking nearly 16% of Mexico’s attempts and finishing 8-for-22 (36%). Escobedo ranked in the top 50 in both caused turnovers and faceoff percentage during the tournament. His standout performance came in the team’s final game against the Philippines, recording two ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Mexico finished 1–3 in pool play but impressed in the placement rounds, defeating Wales in overtime and France by two goals to climb from the 22nd seed to a 15th-place finish.
A native of Spring Branch, Texas, Escobedo plays collegiately for Southwestern University. Over his first two seasons with the Pirates, he has appeared in 11 games, starting six, and recorded 26 ground balls, six caused turnovers and one goal.
Escobedo brings experience to Mexico as they prepare for the 2025 Men’s U20 Championship in Korea, scheduled for Aug. 15–24.
