Grant program to expand access to lacrosse via global equipment donations

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colorado, USA – World Lacrosse today announced the launch of a grant program in partnership with Leveling the Playing Field that will provide new and gently used equipment to lacrosse programs around the world with the aim of expanding access and positively influencing the development of the sport.

The equipment grant program is being offered at no cost to World Lacrosse’s 73 member federations spanning six continents. Successful grant applicants will receive equipment packages to support grassroots youth development, as well as World Lacrosse Sixes and box lacrosse programming.

LPF is a U.S.-based non-profit organization that redistributes equipment to expand access and equity within youth sports and recreation programs in under-resourced communities. To-date, LPF has distributed US$8 million worth of equipment, impacting more than 1,000 programs and resulting in an 80 percent increase in participation.

TJ Buchanan, World Lacrosse director of sport development, said: “Through this partnership with Leveling the Playing Field, barriers to entry will be lessened for both established and emerging lacrosse programs around the world. This is an instant catalyst for growth, will be a key factor in making the sport more accessible, and aligns with our commitment to fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive sport in all corners of the globe.”

Kaitlin Brennan, director of operations for LPF said: “We’re extremely excited to partner with World Lacrosse. At our core, we want to help young people enjoy sport by breaking down participation barriers. Having the opportunity to do this on an international scale warms our hearts.”

Grant program applications have been disseminated to World Lacrosse’s membership base. More information can be obtained by contacting grants@worldlacrosse.sport.

ABOUT LEVELING THE PLAYING FIELD
Leveling the Playing Field was founded in 2013 in response to the growing inequity between those who can afford to play sports and those who cannot. LPF collects new and gently used sports and playground equipment from local communities, and volunteers sort and distribute the equipment to schools and organizations working to provide an affordable and accessible option to under-resourced youth groups, community programs and schools.
