World Lacrosse today welcomed Bangladesh as its 94th member and second new member of 2025.
Bangladesh will be a part of the Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union, which now holds 21 members in its 21st year of operation. World Lacrosse has also added 21 members since the start of 2022.
World Lacrosse Director of Sport TJ Buchanan said: “We are pleased to welcome Bangladesh to our global lacrosse family and to the rapidly growing Asia-Pacific Lacrosse Union. We’re grateful for the effort of those in Bangladesh to foster a playing community, and look forward to new and exciting possibilities for competition in this region.”
The APLU welcomes its first member since Pakistan in 2024 and has now added at least one member in each of the last four years. Bangladesh, Pakistan and India form a key contingent of South Asian governing bodies in the APLU, which has developed membership bases across the various distinctive regions of the continent.
The APLU has focused on international competition opportunities for newer members in South Asia, Central Asia, and the Middle East, exemplified by the Asian Lacrosse Games, which is set for its second edition in October in Saudi Arabia.
After hosting the WL Women’s U20 Championship last year in Hong Kong, China, the APLU will also host the next three World Lacrosse championships, beginning in August with the men’s U20 championship on Jeju Island in Korea, and the men’s and women’s championships in 2026 and 2027 in Japan.
