Puerto Rico and Italy claim playoff spots on day five with three spots remaining

Five teams have clinched their playoff spots at the 2024 World Lacrosse Women’s U20 Championship after five days of action in Hong Kong, China.

The United States, Canada and Australia all clinched their pools on day four and will be the top three seeds. On day five, Puerto Rico and Italy joined them with key wins over China and Scotland in close-matched contests. Both teams will be seeded in the bottom four of the quarterfinals.

Three spots in the quarterfinals remain up for grabs on Tuesday between five teams. England, Ireland and Japan are fighting for the two spots in Pool D and England and Ireland meet each other in the first game of the day. The full scenarios for pool D can be found below.

Elsewhere, the Haudenosaunee and Wales will meet in a must-win contest in Pool B on Tuesday.

Ireland and the Haudenosaunee set themselves for their dramatic final days with wins on day four, and Australia and Canada finished their pool play campaigns as well against Mexico and Korea.

England and Ireland meet in the first game of the day while Japan plays Hong Kong, China in the last game of the day.

  • Ireland advances in first, Japan advances in second, England does not advance in third

If Ireland wins AND Japan loses:

  • Ireland advances in first, Japan advances in second, England does not advance in third

If England wins by three or more goals AND Japan wins:

  • Japan advances in first, England advances in second, Ireland does not advance in third

If England wins by one or two goals AND Japan wins:

  • Japan advances in first, Ireland advances in second, England does not advance in third

If England wins by any amount AND Japan loses:

  • England advances in first, Ireland advances in second, Japan advances in third
