The Women’s World Cup is the major international championship for women’s lacrosse and features the top female lacrosse players in the world, representing up to 30 countries. The Women’s World Cup started in 1982 as an international lacrosse tournament conducted every four years. The lone exception was in 1989 when there was a three-year year span between tournaments. The first world cup was hosted in Nottingham, England.
In 2017, the United States won the FIL Women’s World Cup by defeating Canada, 10-5, in Guildford, England. The United States has won eight of the 10 women’s world cup events. Australia won the other two women’s world cups in 1986 and 2005.Steve Stenersen
“US Lacrosse is honored to host the world cup for the Federation of International Lacrosse in 2021,” said US Lacrosse CEO Steve Stenersen.

Towson University is well prepared for this tournament as they hosted both the 2003 Men’s and Womens’s U19 Lacrosse World Championships. Towson University’s Unitas Stadium has a turf infield, lighting and seating for 11,198. Opening ceremonies, quarterfinals, semifinals and the championship final will be played there. Additional turf fields on campus will feature preliminary games.Unitas StadiumMinnegan Field at Johnny Unitas® Stadium is home to Towson University’s football, men’s and women’s lacrosse, field hockey and track teams. The sports complex, which underwent a massive $32 million renovation beginning in 1999, seats 11,198 spectators. It ranks as the third largest facility of its kind in the Metropolitan Baltimore Area behind M&T Bank Stadium where the NFL Ravens play and Oriole Park at Camden Yards, home to Baltimore’s Major League Baseball franchise. The complex is named in honor of two legends – one a coach and educator who served the University for over 40 years – and a former pro football player who many consider the greatest quarterback in NFL history. The Women’s Lacrosse World Cup was conducted by the International Federation of Women’s Lacrosse until 2007, when both the men’s (International Lacrosse Federation) and women’s lacrosse governing bodies merged to form the Federation of International Lacrosse, the current governing organization.FIL Women’s World Cup Championship Results
