Rosters announced for World Lacrosse Box Championships

World Lacrosse today announced the rosters for the 38 teams participating in the dual World Lacrosse Box Championships, set to place from September 20-29 in Utica, New York.

The first-ever women’s box lacrosse championship features over 200 athletes on ten teams, which are split into two pools.

The sixth edition of the men’s box lacrosse championship features over 600 athletes across 28 teams split into seven pools. Eleven teams are competing in their first ever men’s box championship, while 14 teams have multiple past appearances in the event.

Each player’s position, hometown, college/university/club and past world championship information are available to view.

The ten teams appearing in the first women’s box championship have focused on building their rosters with specialized box players and competitive tryout processes, but there are still 59 players with previous experience in World Lacrosse field championships.

Thirty-five players have appeared in senior level women’s championships and another 24 have appeared in junior level championships. Additionally, five players are appearing in both World Lacrosse championships in 2024 after representing their teams at the women’s U20 championship in Hong Kong, China in August.

The men’s box championship features a deep field of experienced box lacrosse teams, with 152 athletes having played in previous box championships.

Sixteen of the 17 teams that previously appeared in the event have five or more players returning from past box championships, and eight teams have 10 or more players with box championship experience: Austria, Canada, Czechia, Finland, Haudenosaunee, Netherlands, Scotland and Slovakia.

Another 153 players have field lacrosse experience at World Lacrosse championships, including 114 with senior men’s championship experience. There are also 77 players in the championship with previous experience in both field and box lacrosse championships.

Thirty-six players have multiple previous appearances in men’s box championships. Nine players have three or more previous appearances:

  • Lyle Thompson, Haudenosaunee: 2011, 2015, 2019
  • Sean Gibson, Ireland: 2007, 2011, 2015, 2019
  • Sofo Cernak, Slovakia: 2011, 2015, 2019
